Irene Xochitl Urrutia is a Mexican/Canadian curator and researcher currently based in Leeuwarden.

Currently, her focus is on media art, materialist posthumanism, and plant-human relationships in artistic practice. In her curatorial work, she is interested in decentralization, accessibility, and global sensibility, and is fascinated by the ecological, political, and epistemological possibilities of contemporary art.

In 2016, she co-founded Galería Tu Mamá, an independent contemporary art gallery in Mexico City, where she curated and organized exhibitions, workshops, and other events. She also collaborated on shows and events with other Mexico City galleries, and has volunteered at art institutions in Belgium and Greece. Currently, she is a curator for Media Art Friesland, where she mainly works on the Media Art Festival.
